* We have received reports that the oil/chemical carrier SEA SPIKE (IMO: 9629952) came into contact with the bulk carrier SUN SHINE whilst at Chattogram Port Outer Anchorage, Bangladesh, on 14 August 2026.
* SUN SHINE (IMO: 9405435), is a 2007-built bulk carrier having a gross tonnage of 29,956 tonnes. The vessel was proceeding from Diliskelesi (Turkey) to Chattogram (Bangladesh) and was reportedly laden with approximately 52,000 tonnes of wheat in bulk at the time of the incident.
* The contact reportedly occurred whilst SEA SPIKE was attempting to anchor, with strong currents initially reported as a possible contributing factor. The incident resulted in a crack of approximately one square metre in the port quarter adjacent to the engine room, leading to water ingress into the engine room, whilst the cargo tanks are reported to have remained intact.
* SUN SHINE also reportedly sustained hull damage, resulting in water ingress. Following the incident, the local port authority, coast guard and port tugs attended the scene to assist the vessels and support the emergency response operations.
* We understand that SEA SPIKE has since been moved to a berth at Chattogram Port with the assistance of tugs for cargo discharge operations and inspection, whilst SUN SHINE remains at anchor.
* It is therefore possible that General Average, Salvage and Recovery issues may arise as a result of this incident.
* We therefore recommend that you contact us urgently if you are concerned with any cargo on board either vessel so that we can immediately start taking steps to protect your interests.
